Hello and a Happy and Good New Year to you all.

Christmas and New Year seem to have passed quietly for anyone I have spoken to since we all started back last week.

The enforced "stay at home" over the holidays brought about by the snow and freezing temperatures provided a good excuse for some much-needed down time after what was a turbulent and stressful year for most people.

The big thaw seems to have started ...... slowly, which is probably a good thing for most with the worry of frozen pipes (although as I am typing this there is snow falling so I don't think we have seen the last of it yet).

The ice on the loch is 6 inches thick in places and the birds have all gathered in one small opening at the harbour end including the swans.  The cob, penn and three cygnets are paddling around like mad whilst trying to remain civil with each other!  The reports from the boys down on site on some of the landings the geese have been making on the frozen loch would almost make your eyes water!  

The fox has been seen quite a few mornings near the wood walking a few steps, head down, pausing then moving on still watching intently suddenly springing up like a cat and pouncing down on his prey, which is most likely a field mouse then scurrying off with his catch.

The site is still in the grips of winter hibernation with no sign of movement or growth.

The days however are already beginning to lengthen even if it is just by minutes each week and I think this more than anything gives me the hope and promise of spring to look forward to.
